1665 – PRESENT
Every photograph, document, and memory helps tell the story of the generations who came before us. We preserve and share our family history, honor our ancestors, and help care for their resting places. This is a living family history that will continue to grow as new stories, photographs, documents, and discoveries are added.
April 2025 — Tom crossing a creek in Virginia to visit land once owned by Bartholomew Stovall, the first Stovall settler from England.
Tom's passion for genealogy and more than three decades of family history research helped inspire the creation of the Stovall Heritage Foundation.
Tom's final resting place will be at McClure Cemetery in Huntland, Tennessee, alongside ancestors whose stories he spent so many years uncovering.
As we remember and honor Tom, we invite family and friends to help carry forward his passion for preserving our family's history. Beginning in early 2027, opportunities to support the Stovall Heritage Foundation and its planned monument at McClure Cemetery will be announced.
September 30, 1928 – September 12, 1999
On September 30, the anniversary of our father James Ralph Stovall’s birth, we are pleased to introduce the Stovall Heritage Foundation website. Known to his family as Ralph, he had a deep interest in his family’s history and preserved names and relationships on a handwritten Stovall family tree.
The photographs, documents, stories, and family history he left behind are among the pieces helping us continue the work he began.
As we remember Ralph on his birthday—and mark twenty-seven years since his passing on September 12—we are especially pleased to begin by sharing his story.

We are building the Stovall Heritage Foundation’s digital archive, continuing family research, and developing projects that preserve our family’s history, stories, and places.
